I went to Baku with my school to participate in the volleyball and soccer tournament. Initially, I didn’t plan on playing soccer but then I found out that my team needed me so I decided to play with them and support my school. It was my first time participating in the event of this type. And also my first time going to Baku. Event was hosted by TISA and I got a chance to see another IB school and communicate with other DP students. My host was a DP1 girl and we got to share our experience in the Diploma Programme and compare how our schools are same and different. I got a lot of new skills there. I didn’t know how to play soccer and volleyball before that but after the tournament our whole team could see a difference and development of our skills. When I went to Baku I couldn’t serve well in volleyball, I couldn’t get a ball over the net but after couple of games my serves became the best in my team and we could earn some points in a row from my servings. All the other teams were really good and we were proud that we could win one game. In soccer, we also won one game and it was the first time in New School’s history that girl’s team would win a soccer team. We didn’t have any subs what made games even more challenging. Especially, when we had three of them in the row. Before I went to Baku, I’ve never played an actual soccer game so it was my debut there. First, I was very confused but my teammates and couch were giving me advices so I did my best. I was in defence and defended some kicks. And if I missed something, my teammate was always there to help me out. We had a great team spirit and won a sportsmanship award.
